Pregnant Great White Shark Washes Ashore in Florida
Navarre Beach Fire Rescue Assists with Removal
Navarre Beach, Florida – August 26, 2023
On Friday afternoon, Navarre Beach Fire Rescue (NBFR) personnel responded to a call regarding a deceased shark that had washed ashore on the beach. Upon arrival, officials discovered a large, pregnant great white shark measuring approximately 13 to 15 feet in length.
With the assistance of a local contractor, NBFR carefully removed the shark from the beach for proper disposal. The shark, believed to be pregnant, displayed no obvious signs of injury or trauma. However, due to its enormous size, officials opted to remove it for further examination.
"It's not every day you encounter a shark of this magnitude," stated Captain Mike Wenzell of NBFR. "We're thankful that no one was injured and that we were able to safely remove the animal from the beach."
The incident serves as a reminder of the diverse marine life that inhabits the Florida coast. While shark encounters are relatively rare, beachgoers are advised to exercise caution and follow local safety guidelines.
